GB Films vs Hollywood - The Remakes

Sections to cover in your comparison:

Production:

Funding, production company, circumstances of production, what was going on at the time that might relate to the films themes etc (social/political context).

Cast, directors, settings/locations, narrative, content in terms of themes/ideas

Marketing & Distribution:

What kind of distribution? How many continents? Can you account for why in terms of Uk or Hollywood cinema?

Marketing? Sold on stars? director? Was it saturation marketing? Did they sell other things along with that particular film? E.g. the original version, or soundtrack or toy cars etc - compare poster/s

Exhibition:

How many screens originally? Was the original re-released at the cinema? on DVD prior to the remake coming out because they had the distribution rights?

Box office earnings?

Audience feedback?

Critical acclaim and journalistic reviews?

It’s up to you which order you cover them in - but I’d suggest an intro saying you’re going to use the 2 remakes to illustrate the differences between the GB National Cinema system/industry and the Hollywood system/industry.

Good Luck and happy comparing.

Hi guys, watch this short video of Ken Loach’s responses to audience and twitter questions. He’s a very interesting and politically inclined filmmaker whose work (‘Sweet Sixteen’) we are studying for FM2: Section B: Socio-Political Film: “Living with Crime”.
